ENDURE IT SOLVANG CAMP 2010 - ITINERARY

Notes: No athlete shall be required to ride, run or swim beyond his or her ability during the Endure It Camp. Helmets are compulsory on all bike rides, even the short jaunt to the pool and/or rides to the store. This itinerary is subject to change.

Monday, March 1: Arrival Day
  • Athletes arrive in Solvang (Hwy 101 to Hwy 246 East) and check in at the Meadowlark Inn on Hwy 246 one mile EAST of Solvang or the Royal Scandinavian Hotel. Unpack; build bikes; socialize! We will assist in building bikes.
  • 4pm: Easy bike ride Alamo Pintado/Ballard Canyon. Goal to spin out the legs after traveling and test out the bikes and make any necessary technical changes. (1 hour)
  • 6pm: Dinner at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 6:45-8:00pm: Staff introductions; Participant Introductions; brief discussion concerning the week ahead

Tuesday, March 2: Drum Canyon Day
  • 6:20am: Depart Meadowlark Inn and stroll to Swim Pool
  • 6:45-7:45am: Swim Practice
  • 8am-9:30am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn.
  • 9am-10am: Bike assistance available
  • Drum Canyon Ride
    • 10:15am: Mandatory ride briefing (please arrive ready to ride) SAG vehicles available for your spare gear
    • 10:30am: Depart for ride. (2 different groups);
      • Group 1: (3 - 3.5hrs - 46miles): Ballard Canyon Rd to Los Olivos - Foxen Canyon - Los Alamos cafe or Subway stop ($) - Drum; Hwy 246 - Solvang
      • Group 2: (3 - 3.5hrs - 37miles) as above, with the exception of the last 9 miles on Hwy 246 to Solvang.
  • 2pm: Light lunch available post ride at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 4:30pm: Group Stretching Session at the Church Hall
  • 6:00pm: Dinner at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 7:00pm: Seminar led by our guest coach

Wednesday, March 3: Jalama Beach Day
  • 7:30am-9am: Group breakfast!
  • Jalama Beach Ride
    • 9:45am: Briefing for the day in the Meadowlark Inn; (please arrive ready to ride) SAG vehicles available for your spare gear
    • 10:00am Depart for ride. Group 1 on bikes, Group 2 in SAG vans
      • Group 1: (4-4.5hrs - 82 mile round trip for whole ride) Jalama Beach ride and back to Meadowlark via Santa Rosa Road. Start at Santa Rosa Road/Hwy 1 intersection. Ride Hwy 1 south for 2 miles - turn RIGHT towards Jalama Beach (hilly route) - Arrive at Jalama($) - Ride back to Santa Rosa Road/Hwy 1 intersection - RIGHT on Santa Rosa Road - turn onto Avenue of the Flags - RIGHT onto HWY 246 through Buellton and then Solvang, returning back to the Meadowlark Inn. Support vehicles available for those wishing to do less mileage.
      • Group 2: (2.5-3hrs) Start at Santa Rosa Road/Hwy 1 intersection. Ride Hwy 1 south for 2 miles - turn RIGHT towards Jalama Beach (hilly route) - Arrive at Jalama ($) - Ride back to Santa Rosa Road/Hwy 1 intersection. Drive back to Solvang.
  • 3pm onwards: Light lunch available post ride at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 5pm: Group run - Vineyard Run 30-60 mins
  • 6pm: Dinner at the Meadowlark Inn and introductions for those just arrived (short week option)
  • 7:15pm: Q & A Session with coaches around the camp fire

Thursday March 4: Aerobic Day! Tour of the Santa Ynez Valley Ride
  • 6am: Depart Meadowlark Inn and stroll to Santa Ynez High School Swim Pool
  • 6:15-7:15am: Swim Practice
  • 7:30am-9:00am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 9:45am: Ride briefing
  • 10:00am: Depart for ride. Tour of the Santa Ynez Valley including Happy Canyon! (30-52mile options)
  • 1:30pm: Light lunch available post ride at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 4pm: Group run from Meadowlark Inn up Refugio road
  • 5pm: Group stretching
  • 6pm: Depart to go to Kalyra Winery for Wine Tasting and dinner

Friday March 5: Two/Three Short Climbs Ride
  • 7:30am-9am: Group breakfast!
  • 8:45am-10:00am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 10:15am: Ride briefing
  • 10:30am: Depart for ride. Two/three short climbs 50 mile ride.
  • 1:30pm: Light lunch available post ride at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 2pm onwards: Afternoon and evening off to explore Solvang and enjoy a local restaurant for dinner. We are happy to give recommendations.

Saturday, 6: The Fig!
  • 6:30am: Depart Meadowlark Inn and stroll to Pool
  • 7:30am-8:30am: Swim Practice
  • 8:45am - 9:45am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 10am: Hand in transition and run gear to the SAG vehicles for those wishing to make the day a brick session.
  • The Fig Climb/Brick "An epic climb 9miles at 9%, with a trail run near the top for an extra challenge."
    • 10:15am: Ride briefing for Group 1
    • 10:30am: Group 1 departs the Meadowlark Inn. 46 miles round trip including the 9mile climb.
    • 10:45am: Group 2 departs the Meadowlark Inn. 46 miles round trip including the 9mile climb.
    • Notes: SAG support will be available throughout the day. Please be sure to place your run shoes in the SAG vehicle (in an easily identifiable bag with your name on it) prior to departure of workout. There will be a 20 to 60-minute run immediately off the bike near the top of Figueroa Mountain Road (the run is on a Forest Service dirt road and is an out and back affair (uphill out/downhill back); the run is strictly optional.
    • The route for both groups: Depart the Meadowlark Inn; take Alamo Pintado Road to Los Olivos - Cross Hwy 154 onto Figueroa Mountain Road; ride past Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch- a mile later you'll start up The FIG on a 22% grade! (Be sure to enjoy the views! The climb soon mellows out.) - At the top we'll take Figueroa Mountain Road back down to the start of the run - after the run we'll descend the remainder of The FIG and retrace our route back to Los Olivos, where we'll stop at the cafe on the way home.
  • 3pm: Light (rather late due to the long day) lunch available post ride at the Meadowlark Inn!
  • 4pm: Pack up bikes (Please ask for assistance if you need, we are happy to help)
  • 6pm: Pre-dinner drinks at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 6:45pm: Presentation of the week's video
  • 7:30pm: Group dinner at a local restaurant

Sunday, March 7: Departure day
  • 7:30am: An optional run/jog will take place for those whose travel plans permit.
  • 7:30am - 10am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
  • 9:00am: Airport Shuttles to Santa Barbara Airport begin.
