SPRING FLING CAMP 2008 - ITINERARY

Notes: (the small print): $ = money needed for cafe stop. Bring some. No athlete shall be required to ride, run or swim beyond his or her ability during the Spring Fling Camp. Helmets are compulsory on all bike rides, even the short jaunt to the pool and/or rides to the store. Subject to change. Your mileage may vary.

Monday, March 10th:
Arrival day. Athletes arrive in Solvang (Hwy 101 to Hwy 246 East) and check in at the Meadowlark Inn, one mile east of Solvang on Hwy 246. Unpack, build bike, socialize!
4pm: Easy group run from the Meadowlark Inn on rolling hills (25-minutes to 1-hour)
6pm: Dinner at the Meadowlark Inn
7pm: Staff & participant introductions; brief discussion concerning the week ahead at the Baptist Church Hall

Tuesday, March 11th:
6:30am: Depart the Meadowlark Inn and stroll to the high school pool (bring a towel)
6:45am - 7.45am: Swim practice at the high school pool
8:00am - 9:00am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
9:00am - 9.45am: Bike assistance available (Please schedule in advance w/Chuckie)
10:00am: Ride briefing at the Meadowlark Inn
10:15am: Ride! (3 separate groups)
Group 1 ~ Tepusquet (81-miles/130 km) $
Group 2 ~ Drum Canyon Loop (46-miles/75 km) $
Group 3 ~ Drum Canyon Loop (46-miles/75 km) $
5:00pm: Fix-a-Flat Seminar
6pm: Dinner at the Meadowlark Inn, featuring the world-renown Norbert Shultz!
7pm: Seminar

Wednesday, March 12th:
7:30am - 9am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
9:15am: Ride briefing at the Meadowlark Inn. Group 3: Load bikes into SAG vehicles.
9:30am: Ride! (3 separate groups)
Group 1 ~ Jalama Beach and back via Santa Rosa Road (80-miles/129 km) $
Group 2 ~ Surf Beach & back via Santa Rosa Road (72-miles/114 km) $
Group 3 ~ Jalama Beach & back to Santa Rosa Road / Hwy 1 junction. Start at the Santa Rosa Road / Hwy 1 intersection (34-miles/55km) $
3:30pm: Group run; out & back down Refugio Road (30 to 60-minutes)
5pm: Group Stretching/Core Strengthening Session at the Baptist Church with Cristi Shupe, Physical Therapist and Pilates Instructor
6pm: Dinner at the Meadowlark Inn – Barbecue!

Thursday, March 13th:
7:15 - 8:15am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
8:30am: Load SAG vehicles with your Fuelbelt and Gatorade bags.
8:45am: Briefing for the day: ‘THE FIG’ brick (45-mile/72km bike; 4-mile/6.5km run)
9am: Group 3 departs the Meadowlark Inn
9:15am: Group 1 and 2 depart the Meadowlark Inn
SAG available throughout the day. Place your running/transition gear in the Fuelbelt bag and extra clothing for the descent in the Gatorade bag. Make sure you’ve put these in the SAG vehicle before the ride briefing. The descent may be chilly!
5:30pm: Depart the Meadowlark Inn toward Kalyra Winery, via vehicular means. Turn right out of the Meadowlark, turn right onto Refugio Road. The winery is a mile down Refugio, on the right.
6pm: Dinner at Kalyra Winery; sport your nicest attire.

Friday, March 14th:
6:30am: Depart Meadowlark Inn and stroll to the high school pool (bring a towel)
6:45am - 7.45am: Swim practice at the high school pool
8:00am - 9:00am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
10am: Ride! Easy Day! (3 separate groups)
Group 1 ~ Brief Tour of Santa Ynez Valley – short route (52-miles/84 km) $
Group 2 ~ Tour of Santa Ynez Valley – medium route (42-miles/68 km) $
Group 3 ~ Extended Tour of Santa Ynez Valley – long route (30-miles/49km) $
5pm: Group Stretching/Core Strength Session at the Baptist Church with Cristi Shupe
6pm: Dinner at the Meadowlark Inn

Saturday, March 15th:
7:30am - 8:30am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
9am: The day’s briefing
9:15am Groups depart…
Group 1 ~ Ride: Broadcast Peak Climb. Please notify Chuckie well in advance if you plan to ride this! Limited to Group 1 riders only!
Groups 2 and 3 ~ Long Run in Long Canyon on Long Valley Rd, appropriately enough.
2pm: Groups 2 and 3 Recovery Ride to Nojoqui Falls and back (19-miles/31km or less)
4pm: Bike packing. Ask Chuckie or Michael for assistance.
6pm: Showing of the video of the camp week at the Baptist Church Hall
7pm: Dinner at a local restaurant in Santa Ynez
9pm: More wine follows!

Sunday, March 16th:
7:30am - 9am: Breakfast at the Meadowlark Inn
Airport shuttles begin at 9am...
10am: Optional run if your travel plans permit!
